The results of the work in 2024 were presented by the scientific divisions of the Pacific branch of VNIRO

On Tuesday, February 4, the first thematic section of the Reporting Session of the Pacific Branch of the Russian State Research Center "All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography" (VNIRO) was held on the results of the implementation of the thematic plan of research work in 2024. Opening the event, Deputy Director - Head of the Pacific Branch of VNIRO, PhD Alexey Baitaluk congratulated the participants on the fact that for the first time in many years the Reporting Session is being held in the reconstructed assembly hall, as was customary at the Institute before. On this day, specialists from the scientific departments of the branch shared with colleagues their achievements in the direction of "Study of the raw material base of fisheries and features of biology and technologies for the reproduction of aquatic organisms in the Sea of Japan." Scientists presented 11 reports, which were prepared by authors or creative teams. The issues raised by the experts are directly related to the assessment of the state of commercial stocks and the development of materials that scientifically substantiate, for example, the volumes of the total allowable catch (TAC) and the recommended catch (RC).

In addition, the heads of 7 research departments presented reports on the main results of scientific and applied research, outlined promising areas of work and proposals for optimization. Every year, scientists from the Pacific branch of VNIRO carry out a colossal amount of research work, but they collect and analyze relevant data necessary for the development of domestic fisheries in an exhausting multitasking mode: there is an acute shortage of young qualified specialists. One of the possible solutions involves intensifying the development of constructive cooperation with specialized universities, including within the framework of targeted training.

All reports aroused the interest of colleagues and a constructive discussion. The program of the 2025 Reporting Session includes three thematic sections. Their brief overview will also be presented on the website of the Pacific branch of VNIRO.
